The water polo team from Šabac finished the season in the Serbian Super League in third place, after defeating Red Star Belgrade in the second match of the series. The rematch was played in Futog, and was decided only in the last seconds, with a goal by Aljoša Mačić for the final score of 11:10.
Šabac entered the series with an advantage after a 16:8 victory in the first match, but the second duel had a completely different course. Red Star was much closer to victory than in the opening match, having a score advantage several times and managing to bring the match to an uncertain end.
The home team led 9:8 in the last quarter, and then 10:9, but Šabac did not allow the series to return to the third game. In the final, they managed to equalize, and then use the last attack to win.
Mačić scored seven seconds before the end, giving Šabac the triumph, third place and the end of the series without a goal. He was also the most effective player of the winning team with three goals. Lazić, Toholj and Korac added two goals each.
Veljko Krstić was the most enthusiastic player for Red Star, scoring five goals. With this defeat, Red Star remained in fourth place, although it was very close to tying the series in the second game.
After the match, the Secretary General of the Serbian Water Polo Federation, Ivan Basara, presented the bronze medals to the water polo players from Šabac.
Third place earns Šabac a direct place in the group stage of the European Cup for the 2026/27 season. Red Star will begin their European journey through the qualifiers for the same competition.
