The water polo players of Radnički Kragujevac opened the final series of the Serbian Super League with a victory, after defeating Novi Beograd at home with a score of 15:10. The Kragujevac team thus took a 1:0 lead in the battle for the title, in a series that is played to three wins.
Although the final score showed a clear victory for the home team, the start of the match belonged to Novi Beograd. The guests entered the match better and took a 3:0 lead, but Radnički did not allow the early deficit to determine the further course of the match. The home team gradually returned to the game, raised the level of execution in the attack and by the end of the first quarter reached a 5:5 tie.
The second quarter brought a change of pace. Radnicki won that period 4:1, and went into halftime with a 9:6 lead. Kragujevac’s players played more confidently in both directions in that part of the match, with better organization of the attack and a stronger defense.
Novi Beograd tried to reduce the deficit and get back into the game, but they were unable to maintain the continuity from the opening minutes. Radnički continued to control the score in the third quarter, which they won 4:2, so before the last eight minutes they had a 13:8 advantage. There was no major uncertainty about the outcome in the final, as the home team maintained the advantage until the end of the match.
The most efficient player for the home team was Viktor Rašović with three goals, while Nikola Lukić stood out for Novi Beograd with four goals, while Miloš Ćuk added two.
The second match of the final series is scheduled for May 25th, when Novi Beograd will host the match at the “11. april” swimming pool.
