Serbia’s young water polo players (players under 16) recorded another victory at the World Championships in Zagreb. Daniela Ćuk’s team defeated Brazil 11:5 (2:3, 3:1, 3:0, 3:1) in the final round of the first phase of the competition.
The most efficient players in our team were Jana Pejić and Maša Ćuk with five goals each, while Milica Pavić also scored one goal.
The Brazilians opened the match better and after the first quarter had a goal advantage (3:2). Our young water polo players had the right answer and managed to turn the score around, so at halftime it was 5:4 for Serbia. In the third period, the Serbians turned the game around and, without conceding a goal, and with three goals scored, they came to a four-goal advantage (8:4). In the last quarter, our national team was better and calmly brought the match to an end.
Dunja Lovčević excelled in goal, and was deservedly named the best player of the match.
The Serbian women’s team finished the first phase of the competition with three wins and one loss, but unfortunately that was not enough for them to qualify for the quarterfinals. In the rest of the championship, they will play for 9th to 16th place, and their first rival will be the Canadian national team, which they defeated in the first phase. The match is scheduled for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
