The Serbian women’s water polo team, players under 18, was defeated by Australia with a score of 22:5 (7:3, 5:1, 4:1, 6:0) in their second match in Group F at the World Championship in Puerto de la Cruz.
Coach Dejan Bozic’s team held their own well at the start of the match. Serbia scored three goals in the first quarter, but a very efficient Australia had a 7:3 lead after just eight minutes.
The Australians further increased their lead in the second period. They won that period of the game with a score of 5:1, so the halftime score was 12:4.
The Australians continued in the same rhythm in the second half. They won the third quarter with a score of 4:1, while in the last eight minutes they scored six goals without conceding a goal, for a final score of 22:5.
For the Serbian national team, Masha Ćuk and Elena Ćuk scored two goals each, while Nika Ratković scored once.
Serbia thus finished the group stage of the World Cup with one win and one loss. Our national team defeated Brazil 12:11 at the start of the championship, while they were defeated by Australia in their second match.
Serbia will play its next match in the playoff for 13th to 20th place on Wednesday, August 19, at 4 p.m., against Zimbabwe.
