The Serbian women’s water polo team, players under 18, was defeated by Germany with a score of 9:7 (1:1, 2:3, 4:0, 2:3) in the second match of Group H in the play-off for 13th to 20th place at the World Championship in Puerto de la Cruz.
Coach Dejan Bozić’s team started the match well. After a tied first quarter, which ended with a score of 1:1, Serbia was better in the second half and won 3:2, so they went into the break with a minimal advantage – 4:3.
The decisive period of the match was the third quarter, in which Germany scored four goals, while Serbia failed to find the net. The Germans turned the score around before the last eight minutes and took a 7:4 lead.
Serbia tried to get back into the match in the last quarter and won that period of the game 3:2, but failed to make up the deficit, so Germany won with a score of 9:7.
The most efficient players in the Serbian national team were Maša Ćuk and Nika Ratković with two goals each, while Jana Pejić, Elena Ćuk and Nina Peković each scored one goal.
After a convincing victory against Zimbabwe and a defeat against Germany, Serbia will face Colombia in the last match of Group H, which is scheduled for Friday at 1:00 p.m. Serbian time.
