The Serbian women’s water polo team (players under 18) started their performance at the World Championship in Puerto de la Cruz with a victory, after defeating Brazil 12:11 (1:1, 7:6, 2:2, 2:2) in their first match in Group F.
After a tied first quarter, which ended with a score of 1:1, coach Dejan Bozić’s team played a very efficient second half. Serbia scored seven goals in those eight minutes and went into the break with a minimal lead – 8:7.
A great and uncertain battle ensued. The third quarter ended with a score of 2:2, so our national team led 10:9 before the last eight minutes.
Both teams scored two goals in the final period. Serbia managed to preserve a minimal advantage and achieve an important victory at the start of the World Cup – 12:11.
The most efficient player in the Serbian national team was Maša Ćuk with three goals. Jana Pejić, Nika Ratković, Jana Janković and Elena Ćuk each scored two goals, while Danica Balać scored one goal.
Serbia will face Australia in their second match in Group F on Tuesday, starting at 11:30 a.m. Serbian time.
