Young Serbian water polo players win international preparatory tournament in Varaždin

Young water polo players from Serbia (players under 16) won first place at the International Tournament “Croatia Cup”, which was held in Varaždin.

Vojislav Čupić’s team achieved maximum performance with five wins. In the first phase, they defeated the USA (12:11), Croatia (12:11) and Russia (10:9), in the semi-finals they were again better than the USA (8:7), while in the final they once again defeated the hosts (7:6).

The tournament in Varaždin was used as a test for the World Championship, which will be held in Zagreb from August 3 to 9, 2026.

Coach Čupić points out that he is very satisfied after several difficult preparatory matches, and that they were a good prelude to the World Championship.

“The tournament in Varaždin was the last competitive preparation for the World Cup that awaits us. It was a very even tournament, and this is proven by the fact that we won all the matches by only one goal. It is good that we went through such matches, so that we could prepare as best as possible for what awaits us at the World Cup.”

We will train in Varaždin for two more days, and then we will go to Zagreb, where we will play our first match in the championship on August 3rd against the Puerto Rican national team.”
