The Serbian youth men’s water polo team (players under 16) advanced to the semifinals of the World Championship in Zagreb. Vojislav Čupić’s team defeated Brazil in the quarterfinals with a score of 11:7 (3:1, 2:2, 2:1, 4:3).
Our national team opened the game well and after the first quarter gained a two-goal lead – 3:1. In the second period, both teams scored two goals, so Serbia went into halftime with a 5:3 lead.
Serbia was better in the third period, winning 2:1 and heading into the final period, had a three-goal lead – 7:4. The Brazilians tried to get back into the match in the final period, but our young water polo players responded with four goals and safely brought the match to an end.
The most efficient players in the Serbian national team were Maksim Krečković and Uroš Munćan with three goals each. Dušan Samardžić, Marko Abadžić, Nemanja Grgić, Marko Bursac and Blagoje Lale scored one goal each.
Goalkeeper Nemanja Paležević also made a big contribution to the victory, making nine saves.
With this victory, Serbia earned a place among the four best national teams in the world and continued its fight for a medal.
Serbia will play against Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals, and the match is scheduled for tomorrow at 7 p.m.
