The Serbian young water polo players (players under 16) continued their fight for 9th to 16th place at the World Championship in Zagreb with a victory over Canada. Daniela Ćuk’s team celebrated after executing a five-pointer with a score of 18:16. After four quarters, the score was 13:13 (2:3, 4:3, 5:4, 2:3), while Serbia was more successful in the penalty shootout with a score of 5:3.
The Canadians opened the game better and won the first quarter with a score of 3:2. Serbia responded in the second period, which they won in their favor with a score of 4:3, so the score went into halftime tied at 6:6. Our national team was better in the third quarter and led 11:10 on the eve of the last period.
A dramatic finish followed. Serbia was losing by one goal with just a few seconds left, but our national team managed to score the equalizer and chose to take the penalty kick. They were more confident in the penalty shootout and won 5:3.
The most efficient player in the Serbian national team was Maša Ćuk with six goals. Milica Pavić scored three, Jana Pejić two, while Milica Marković and Nina Peković each scored once.
Nina Pekovic was named the best player of the match.
Our national team will play against the Italian national team in the next match, in the battle for 9th to 12th place. The match is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, at 2:30 p.m.
