Šabac ends European Cup group stage with defeat in Berlin

The last round of the Euro Cup group stage resolved the only dilemma regarding the list of participants who will continue the competition. Panathinaikos defeated Vuljagmeni, led by our Vladimir Vujasinović and Nemanja Ubović, 14:12, and advanced to the round of 16.

The following teams will play in the round of 16 from the groups: Šabac, Jug, Terrassa, Barcelona, ​​Szolnok, BVSC, Savona and Panathinaikos. They will be joined by the teams that failed to continue competing in the Champions League: Radnički, Jadran Split, Jadran Herceg Novi, Vašaš, Marseille, Sabadell, Primorac and Oradea. The draw for the round of 16 will be on Monday, February 16.

Šabac played an unambitious match in Berlin after having previously secured a place in the group. Spandau won 18:12 (3:3, 4:1, 5:5, 6:3). The Serbian water polo players were not in the lead for a single moment. The match was decided in the second quarter, when the Germans gained an unattainable advantage and in the last eight minutes made the victory convincing.

Coach Ličanin’s side finished second in the group behind Savona, who lost to Steaua on penalties. Vučinić scored the winning goal.

The goals for Šabac were scored by: Toholj, Novaković, Korac and Mačić two each, Stanojević, Barac, Kovačević, Mićanović one each. The scorers for Spandau were: Kojić five, Hoffman three, Ciru and Nađ two, Tkach, Štam, Sekulić, Caray, Čulina and Bruns one each.
