New Belgrade submerged in Brescia

Novi Beograd lost an important match in the third round of the Champions League group stage. Brescia won 12:11 (3:1, 3:3, 4:4, 2:3) at home. A strange match for the Belgrade team, but also a match in which the famous referees Kun and Bourget annoyed both teams. Brescia scored five goals with one more player and one penalty, while Novi Beograd scored seven out of 20 with two penalty kicks.

Novi Beograd started poorly, tight in attack, without a solution for Brescia’s defense. The home team did not celebrate either. It was 0:0 until two minutes before the first break, and then the home team exploded, counterattacks flashed and in an hour it was a shocking 3:0. In the last attack, Martinović scored the first goal for the Belgrade team from the penalty spot.

The same player reduced the deficit at the beginning of the second half, but the enthusiastic Brescia took advantage of every chance. After 5:2, the guests were on the scene again, again Martinović and the notable Pješivac for minus one. At halftime, two goals were extra for the hosts.

The third half was shocking again. With a good player more, Brescia had a huge 10:5 lead after three minutes. And then New Belgrade’s run began. Playing all or nothing, the Serbian team scored three goals by halftime, staying in the game for a turnaround. It seemed that that hope would disappear after goals by Đerate and Ferrer. Brescia led 12:8 with less than six minutes left. The home team did not score until the end, and the Belgrade team scored through Gladović, Trtović and Ćuk.

The result that was ultimately final was set with 3:15 left. Both teams had twice as many players. At that time, Martinović and Gladović were not in the game, whose shots could have brought about a turnaround. The referees were disappointing, but the impression is that Novi Beograd missed a great opportunity because it seems that Brescia had to overcome this.
