In the first match of the round of 16 of the European Cup, Radnički water polo players will visit the Spanish team Barcelona on Wednesday, starting at 8 p.m.
Barcelona is the most successful Spanish team with 59 championship titles, and in 1982 they were also European champions. They have recorded more recent successes on the European stage by winning the European Cup in 1995 and 2004. Although their greatest results were recorded until 20 years ago, when Barceloneta took absolute primacy, Barcelona is constantly at the top of Spanish water polo.
Until last weekend, they were tied for first place in the Spanish championship, and they qualified for the knockout stage of the European Cup through a group with Hungarian Szolnok, Italian Trieste, and Romanian Dinamo.
A large number of Spanish national team players have come from this club. The team is currently made up mostly of Spanish players, led by internationals Paul Dauro and Nicolas Paulo, with a couple of foreigners led by Japanese international Taya Watanabe.
– Barcelona is a very high-quality team. They showed that not only with their results in the European Cup, but also in the Spanish championship. They are excellently led by coach Andreu Josep. They play atypically, with a lot of attractiveness and speed. We are facing a difficult away game, but I believe we will achieve a favorable result before the second leg in Kragujevac – said Uroš Stevanović , coach of Radnički.
The rematch is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, in Kragujevac.
