The Serbian women’s water polo team (players under 18) convincingly defeated Zimbabwe with a score of 21:1 (7:0, 4:0, 5:1, 5:0) in the play-off for 13th to 20th place at the World Championship in Puerto de la Cruz.
Coach Dejan Bozić’s team took control of the match from the very beginning. Serbia scored seven goals in the first quarter without conceding a goal. Our national team continued their confident play in the second half, which they won 4:0, so Serbia went into the break with a convincing 11:0 lead.
The Serbian water polo players continued in the same rhythm after the break. They won the third quarter with a score of 5:1, while in the last eight minutes they scored five more goals and did not concede a single goal, for a final score of 21:1.
The most efficient players in the Serbian national team were Jana Pejić and Nika Ratković with five goals each, while Maša Ćuk scored four. Danica Balać and Jana Janković scored two goals each, and Elena Ćuk, Nina Peković and Sofija Krsteski scored one goal each.
Jana Pejić was named player of the match.
With this convincing victory, Serbia began the play-offs in Group H for 13th to 20th place at the World Cup. Our national team will play their next match against Germany on Thursday, August 20, at 2:30 p.m.
