The Serbian youth men’s water polo team (players under 16) failed to qualify for the final of the World Championship in Zagreb. Vojislav Čupić’s team was defeated in the semi-finals by Croatia with a score of 12:11 (4:5, 2:2, 3:1, 3:3).
Our national team opened the match better and had a goal advantage after the first quarter – 5:4. In the second period, both teams scored two goals, so Serbia went into halftime with a 7:6 lead.
Croatia turned the score around in the third quarter, winning 3:1, and entered the final period with a 9:8 lead. The final period was evenly contested, with both teams scoring three goals each, with the home team maintaining a minimal advantage and advancing to the final.
The most efficient player for the Serbian national team was Uroš Munćan with four goals. Maksim Krečković scored three, Marko Buršać two, while Strahinja Milutinović and Nemanja Grgić each scored once.
Serbia will play for the bronze medal on the last day of the World Championship. The third-place match is scheduled for Sunday, August 9, at 7:00 PM against the USA.
