The Serbian young water polo team (players under 16) was defeated by Italy with a score of 9:4 (1:1, 3:1, 2:2, 3:0) in the match for 9th to 12th place at the World Championships in Zagreb.
Our national team opened the match well, so after the first quarter the score was tied – 1:1. The Italians were better in the second period and went into halftime with a two-goal lead (4:2).
In the third quarter, both teams scored two goals, so Italy led 6:4 heading into the final period. The young Serbian water polo players failed to break the opponent’s net in the final period, while the Italians scored three goals and brought the match to an end.
Anastazija Ilic, Masha Cuk, Milica Markovic and Nina Pekovic each scored one goal for Serbia.
Our national team will play their last match of the championship against China, in the fight for 11th place. The match is scheduled for Friday, July 31, at 1:00 p.m.
