Serbia secures spot in World Cup quarterfinals against Turkey

The Serbian U-18 water polo team advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Championship in Portugal, after defeating Turkey 19:12 in the round of 16.

After an even start and a first quarter in which there was no separation, Miloš Saković’s team played much more solidly in defense and took control of the match. Serbia gained a key advantage in the second and third quarters, when they conceded only three goals, while finding solutions in attack with increasing ease.

By the middle of the third period, the Serbian team already had a secure lead, so the final period went without any major problems. The most efficient players in the Serbian national team were Munćan, Zelić and Nešković with three goals each, while Vujinović and Bistrović scored two each.

Turkey was led by Altay with five and Yildiz with four goals.

Serbia will play against Spain in the quarterfinals on Thursday, July 2nd at 4 p.m., which will be the most serious test for the Serbian juniors in the championship so far and an opportunity to compete for a place among the four best teams in the world.
