Former prominent sports journalist for RTS and water polo player for ŽAK from Kikinda, Saša Mikić, has passed away at the age of 63. He was hospitalized in recent weeks after his health deteriorated at home.
Before entering the world of journalism, Mikić played water polo, a sport he remained faithful to throughout his career. He took his first steps as a journalist at Radio Index, while still studying at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. His first editor was Risto Kubura, who recognized his talent and guided him towards professional journalism.
During his studies, he began working at Television Belgrade, where, upon the recommendation of a colleague from the faculty, he was brought by Rade Popović, the author of the cult show “Horses Across the Wilderness”. From “Belgrade Chronicle”, he soon moved to the sports editorial office of RTS, where he built a recognizable style and authority.
A special place in the career of this journalist is occupied by reporting from major water polo competitions. It all started at the European Championship in 1997 in Seville. During his long career, he followed and commented on the performances of the Serbian national team at major international events, including the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, as well as matches of leading Serbian water polo clubs.
The funeral will take place at the city cemetery in Kikinda on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
